Reflections from the book of Joel

Joel 2:19 “The LORD replied to them: “I am sending you grain, new wine

and olive oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an

object of scorn to the nation.” What mistake are you reminding yourself about

regularly? What things have you done that is stopping you from moving closer to

God? Often we find ourselves in self-made separation situations from God

because of “us” and “our” actions. In Joel it is apparent that God is not

pleased with His people. Rightfully so, the prophet records God’s actions

towards them and the land they inhabited. Take notice of verse 19 of chapter 2.

A key word after the tangibles that one might delight in is “never”. Never

again God says will I make you an object of scorn. This is key, cause we at

times make ourselves an object of scorn. That word is defined as a feeling of

worthless or despicable. If God says “never”, who are we to disagree with God?

Who are we to hold unconfessed sin in our hearts and lay in our guilt when God

says NEVER again? How can He say never, cause He has equipped us with His

Spirit. He has poured it out on all people. You are included in that ALL.

You must ask yourself, “if I have God’s Spirit, how could I in turn be

worthless?” How could I feel this way about myself when God doesn’t feel this

way about me? During this fast, we must break the yoke and negative self image

and say NEVER again. We must see ourselves as God sees us, His precious

children who He died for so we may live for him. As you read this, I want you

repeat the word NEVER three times. The world says you should never say never.

Thanks world, but we are not of this world.

God Bless.
